[Basel] DADA_remix @OnTour

1. December | 20:00

What was really sounding in the Zurich Dada soirées?The familiar story tells: a group of radical artists gathers in neutral Switzerland in the middle of the First World War, provokes the bourgeoisie, and shakes the art world. It’s a good story.
It’s just not entirely true.

The music of the Zurich soirées was, unlike the texts, surprisingly tame.
. Audiences applauded. Only the last of the eight soirées ended in uproar, triggered not by music, but by texts.. The most-performed composer of Zurich Dada, Hans Heusser, quietly disappeared into brass band music post-movement and never once spoke publicly about his Dada years. The supposedly internationalist movement helped itself freely to music and dance from the African continent.. And the women who contributed substantially to the movement were barely mentioned when the story was told later.

DADA-Remix confronts these contradictions, without reverence, but with curiosity.
